final showdown ( Final Design )

                                                                MIXED FEATHERS

The title of my final Design chosen for print and exhibition is " Mixed Feathers ".

                                                       CONCEPT OF DESIGN
          The concept of my design is based on interculture at HELP University, it potrays an eagle soaring with open wings as a pacesetter for other eagles all aiming for a higher level of achievement, which depeicts people of various backgrounds, races, cultures and nationalty coming together moving up as achievers but all with different levels of achievment and success.

The very colourful image exhibits the radiance and beauty at HELP University, this idea came to me as i was drawn back to an event i organised years ago titled "On Eagles Wings" depicting levels of power and position depending on your altitude compared to your peers.

final showdown

As the semester grinds to its end I was required to pick 3 of my sketches and work on them with photoshop to enhance picture quality and output.

1. PLANET PALMS: This is artwork depicts unity in different roots, showing various racial colours coming together.

   I started by using the magic wand tool to select the different palms to modify them individually. by selecting a part and choosing the inverse selection.

    The inverse selection of the part picked by my magic wand.

 I used the paint bucket tool 1and bubble splash pattern to improve the background design.

  I improved the hand paintings by using levels and gradient, to adjust the contrast and colour. Producing a darker and sharper image.

        This the my final image after working on "PLANET PALMS".

2. MIXED FEATHERS

This is an artwork that explores various potentials and sees the soar above the clouds with varied levels of success and a pacesetter setting the trend.

I started by inserting the image in photoshop and editing the image size while maintaining the original image quality.

Then i used the Image -> adjustment -> levels Function, which works on the levels and gradient of contrast and colour to enhance the image quality.

I followed up by using the paint bowl to modify the background colour and other separate parts.

The magic wand was used to select individual parts for colour modification.

All the tools above combined together perfectly produced "MIXED FEATHERS".
This is my selected image for Print.

3.CULTURE POWER: This depicts the world and its continents coloured with their political or economic strenghts, while we have stars representing people moving on to the next level of success in their career.

I started by using the levels tool to adjust the gradient and level of colour and contrast as my artwork was already painted to detail previously so there was not much work on colour to be done.

I followed up by using some tools in the layer style blending options, i was just having fun and playing with various effects.

i played with the contour effects even though there was not a distinct difference.

I also utilised the gradient overlay tool to adjust shades and gradient level on some sides and edges of the painting.

Blending all these tools together produced an enhanced "CULTURE POWER" image

Green = Agriculture
Yellow = Cash crops
Blue = Economic strenght
Red = Political strenght
Brown = Desert
White = Snow
Black = Black Gold ( Crude Oil )

Aspriation

Hoping to be the best i can in everything i do, life is fun and the journey is long but short, so in every step of the way i want to be succesfull and the best in everything I do

Reference Artist: Miriam Schapiro

    I have paid tribute to some other very influential artist who were very good and had the right balance and harmony,  but i have chosen MIRIAM SCHAPIRO as my reference artist to study and analyse her elements and principles of design.

  She was born in Ontario, Canada in 1923, found early success in the early 1970's as a print/ painter but did not become a full professional artist until 1955. referred to as one of the female pioneer artist who also coined the term "femmage" which stands for the female laborer's hand sewn works like embroidery, cross stitching just to mention but a few.

                                               Miriam Schapiro beside one of her works "Pleasure Dome"

       Studying the elements and principle of her design you will find her extremely fascinating, as whe has the perfect harmony and balance on her works, her choice and blend of colours  and materials is mind blowing. Like the artwork below "the poet" brought out her inner self and the motif behind her work as she stated  "I felt that by making a large canvas magnificent in color, design, and proportion, filling it with fabrics and quilt blocks, I could raise a housewife's lowered consciousness."

ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN

Pleasure Dome By, Miriam Schapiro.

ELEMENTS:

COLOUR: The fusion and blend of various colours gives the artwork a generally appealing view which binds fierceness and warmth with the combination of mostly primary colours.

VALUE: The Mixing of various warm and cool colours gives it a mixed punch feeling.

DIRECTION: The artwork is partitioned by imaginary lines which give it a perfect balance and position.

PRINCIPLE:

HARMONY: The artworks combination of colours and pattern gives it a satisfactory resolution.

UNITY: The work potrays unity in colours and material as she stands beside with a matching clothing.

REPETITION: There is a lot of repetition of colours and pattern which is uniformly done and is pleasurable.

Below are some other notable piece of artwork by "MIRIAM SCHAPIRO"

                                                               The Poet.

work on paper

                                                             Feminography

Theses are just some of her works that harnesses her organised arrangement of elements and principles of design.

My Intorduction to design

 Truthfully speaking i dont think i would have a digital visual diary (Blog) if not for my lecturer MR. DEEPAK MENON who taught and committed us to creating one and i am finding it so much fun. His very creative blog inspired me in so many ways even though i may not be anywhere near there anytime soon.

He teaches me introduction to design: this is a course that initiates into the principles and elements of design and it is a preparation to advanced graphic design just as stated on deepak's blog.

Having to pick a reference artist who i am to analyse and study their element and principles of design which includes their balance and harmony.

There are quite a lot of artist to refer to in the likes of DIETER ROTH (a.k.a Diter Rot) the German political scientist who was born in 1930,  was an icelandic artist of swiss german origin who was well know for his artist books and sculptures and pictures made of rotten food.
      Below is a  sculpt made in  1968: foodstuffs, including yoghurt, and screw and wire on blue panel, covered in plaster and left to rot.

VINCENT VAN GOGH a Dutch post impressionist painter born in 1853, he was a well respected artist of his time with his artwork depicting rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold colour. he shot himself out of depression after a long battle with mental illness. Funny enough he sold only one painting in his life but the impact of his artwork is really amazing.
   Below is one of his most influential piece of artwork.

LORNE BEUG born in 1948 bred and studied in regina, Canada. Studied Psychology at the university of Regina.his artwork was influences by his academic background a great deal he worked with corals, ceramics and later shifted to photo collage. one of his works "patterned Ground" was commissioned at the fieldhouse in regina Canada.

JUST ME - Its incredible to imagine if it was just me in this world, i will be living like i don't care, and i will live my life as there is no one around me, i will be acting anyhow because there will be no one to challenge me, but i sit back think and realise that no one is supernatural, diverse is the spirit of the carnival then personality will not matter at all, i don't need to be good or bad, envy, hate or love all except yourself, but then i remember that its our community and not individuality makes us tall, then eventually it dawns on me that like it or not it is JUST ME living in a world filled with people who will either make or break you.

So however, i see that it is still just me in whatever i do cos am totally responsible for all my action successful or otherwise and cant put the blame on anyone else but my self for the outcome so i will just have to do my thing and leave others to do their thing and live for the future cos eventually everything boils down to Vanity.

My Interests:
  I like a lot of things but love certain things, in the sam vain i want a lot of things but only need a few.
   However, my premium interest is Basketball, I always wanted to be a professional and play in the NBA in the USA but things dont always go the way you plan but i believe nothing is still impossible, so i strive daily to work towards achieving these dream.

Nevertheless, not restricting my views am very much interested in all forms of the media as i have working experience within that field.

I worked as an on air personalty (OAP) on a radio station and co hosted a T.v programme.

I am so much in love with the media and entertainment industry that i see my life after school and basketball as a media mogul.
